Over the course of human history there have been legends passed down, every part of the earth has their own tale. While some may include stories involving animals. Here are some legends that are based around Seals.
Based in Celtic and Irish mythology, seals are seen alomost like mermaids expect they have a different take.
Normally women and being a part of the seal, you image a mermaid like Aeril from the little mermaid, or like h20 the show about mermaids, But when you come the celtic mythology they are differnt instead of a women have a tail for legs you have women who are able to turn into a seal fully, They use a speccial coat they were born with. A movie that shows this was made by an irish company the moive is called Song of the sea. It follows a young girl who a silkie and her brother and show more irish mythologys as the story progress.
Silkies to be able to turn into a seal need their coat as such their are story of fishermen falling for them and taking the silkies coat to stop them from leaving and forcing them to stay. Silkies are known to in story to lone for the water. It thsi reason that why they wont addadon their coat since it their concetion with the sea.
In some stories it includes stories of men attempting to harm a silkie for it to speak out and beg for mercy, in this verison the shocked hunter let the seal go free ang gives up hunting seals in fear. Another story about a fisherman was when he took a live baby seal planing to skin to for clothes only to hear it mother calling for it by the baby name. The final one is when a seal hunter finds himself stranted on rocks thiking he gonna die only to be saved by the a silkie it he promised to never hunt seals again.
In the story of silkies they apear ot be more aproaching then mermaids or even sirens, instead of going out of their way to kill saliour they are just trying to survive.
A great movie i already talkied about was Song of the Sea which not only tells a beatufil story but also explores irish mytholgy as we follow a little girl who a silkie and her human brother as they try get home. It has a stunnign art design adn colour pallet and is a high recommend.
